The speculation going around in the market says that the new Safari would just be a facelift of the existing one but we can expect the vehicle to be based on Tata’s new X2 platform. The recent launch of Tata Aria was based on X2 platform and in continuation to that we have a strong reason to believe that the new vehicle could be based on significantly more advanced platform rather than just a facelift.
Technically the X2 platform has several advantages like the strong hydro-formed chassis sections, the more refined power train package which consisting the 2.2 Litre DiCOR engine with the dual-mass flywheel and the upgraded G76-Mark II gearbox.
The X2 platform has been tested extensively before the Tata Aria hit the road. So there is no doubt left that Safari will have significantly better ride and handling than the existing one. We can also expect the Safari coming with four wheel disc brakes and all the electronic safety kit (ABS, EBD and ESP) when it is launched.
The new Safari is expected to sport a selectable 4×4 mode which will give it better off-road prowess than the Aria which currently has with its full-time All Wheel Drive. We can expect that the new Safari would be more like a Land Rover style. The X2 platform can enable the spare tyre to fix underneath the vehicle instead of hinging at the tail gate.
We can expect the new vehicle to retain a very ‘Safari’ profile with the front and the rear receiving most of the styling attention. The front, we believe would be a little more squared off as is the rear, and this will no doubt make the Safari look a lot more rugged and SUV-ish than it already is.
Tata Safari being the most affordable SUV in Indian market keeps improving the fit and finish of its new launches.
