Maruti Suzuki’s popular hatchback, the Celerio, has achieved a significant milestone by crossing the 7 lakh unit sales mark since its debut in 2014. The second-generation Celerio, launched in November 2021, continues to be a popular choice among Indian car buyers with prices starting at Rs. 5.36 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Milestone
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio, known for its affordability and practicality, has solidified its position as a favored entry-level hatchback in the Indian market. It has consistently delivered on the brand’s promise of offering reliable, cost-effective transportation solutions.
Variants and Engine
Available in four variants – LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi Plus, the Celerio is equipped with a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox or an automatic manual transmission (AMT). The powertrain is compliant with BS6 Phase 2.0 emission standards, delivering 66 bhp and 89 Nm of peak torque.
Legacy
The Celerio, introduced as a successor to the A-star and Ritz, has had an interesting journey since its inception. It initially featured a 1.0-litre petrol engine and later included an 800cc diesel option. However, with Maruti Suzuki’s transition to petrol-only cars in India, the diesel variant was discontinued. In 2021, the second-generation Celerio was launched, offering a refreshed design and enhanced features to cater to the evolving needs of Indian car buyers.
With this remarkable sales milestone, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio continues to be a prominent name in India’s automotive landscape, symbolizing a balance of value, performance, and practicality for budget-conscious consumers.
